Full Name: Doc (Real name is Eustace) [So far as I can see, no last name is mentioned]
Age: Late 30s, perhaps early 40s.
Sex: Male
Species: "Wild" Human
Personality:
A kind and caring soul--with that meaning his true inner being, not the more recent additions to the planet--, Doc is soft spoken at first, and like as not to remain in his med ward unless something drastic calls him elsewhere. He believes only in helping others, and will do anything he can, even up to slicing open captured beings to try to remove the creatures known as souls. But due to his kind nature and caring heart, this causes some deep emotional unbalances.
The longer he is forced to experiment on the captured souls, the more the strain is apparent both in his appearance and personality. To deal with the added strain and the guilt, he has turned to alcohol, preferring to drown his sorrows rather than risk breaking completely.
Appearance:
Doc has dark dusty blonde hair that looks almost brown in the darker light of the caves. Tall and lanky, his lean figure tends to blend in unless he wishes to be noticed. Darker green eyes are glazed with exhaustion and sorrow, though he does put on a brave face for the others, and sometimes does manage to look truly happy.
His preference for clothing is scrubs and other med type clothing, but as they are hard to come by, he will settle for whatever the raiders are able to bring home. He prefers sneakers and other comfortable shoes, seeing as he spends most of his time on his feet.
RP example:
Doc sighed and ran a hand down his face in a gesture of exhaustion. He'd been working non-stop on several free humans that they'd found and rescued. Even now with the medicine that he had, and with Candy's help, it was a daunting process. There were so many injuries on raids that had once been peaceful now. Deaths too. It was such a sad waste of human life, and yet he knew it was necessary. How else would they be able to continue to treat the injuries and illnesses with the miracle medicines unless someone went out to replenish the supply? And food was needed also. Emergency rations--cave rations as he jokingly called them--were only able to healthily sustain one for so long.
Sitting down, he rubbed his temples, silently pleading with the throbbing in his head to stop. He'd been much happier since getting the meds, but it didn't stop him from worrying. Even with Candy's help so much had happened.... And he was struggling. The alcohol that he consumed to deal with the failures that had hurt him so much in the past had formed a dangerous addiction, and the longer he was without, the worse he felt. Sooner or later he was going to have to come clean with Sharon and Jeb.... Withdrawl was a dangerous--lifethreatening even--thing, and he wasn't sure that any of them were equipped or even had the miracle treatments to deal with such a thing....
He sighed again, resolved himself, and stood, going down the long dark tunnel to look for Jeb. Sharon would be busy this time of day, best not to disturb her. And Jeb would undoubtedly be the easier of the two to talk --confess--to....
What you like about the canon character:
Doc's wish to help people, his profession, and the pain and anguish that becomes so apparent in later chapters of the book all draw him to me.
